On a recent journey to a gig last Saturday, the phone rings, and it’s the head of events from Butlins.
“Are you available to gig in Skegness, Butlins next Wednesday?”
With 4 day’s to go MIXED FEELINGS took on this very important job and of course said, “yes, see you there!”
Confirmation and contract came through Monday morning, giving the band 48 hours to get organized and to sort equipment, stage plans and to take on a 260 mile round trip (For Some)
After a 3-hour journey, the band started to turn up in dribs and drabs, whilst experiencing a grueling and challenging journey in the dark. For those of you who aren’t too aware of Skegness and its location, there is no direct Motorway to get to the East coast.
On arrival, the band was greeted by a very helpful and professional crew from Butlins who immediately made all feel welcome and relaxed. The event was the Butlins end of term awards ceremony where MIXED FEELINGS were asked to do a 50 min set to get people dancing and to celebrate the achievements of the year.
A lot of entertainment went in to this one event, and it was a privilege to be asked to do it.
The resident DJ played background music through the drinks reception, a solo guitarist and singer performed through the meal, the awards took place, MIXED FEELINGS on stage for dancing and then a quick turn around to get another band on who were a Madness Tribute, and then the entire evening was down to the dj playing through till 2.00am.
After a very short set, MIXED FEELINGS came off stage, got changed, packed up and departed for another drive home in dark wintery conditions.
On reflection, it just goes to show what MIXED FEELINGS are capable of.
Thank You Butlins for asking us, and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again.
